A good start to 2012: Fascinating New Year’s reception

Date: 27-01-2012

Location: Johannesburg / South Africa

The 2012 New Year’s reception hosted by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and SANEC was one to remember. Guests at the Fire & Ice hotel in Melrose Arch were fascinated by a presentation by Fiona Ford about firebrand leader Julius Malema and the new ANC. The author of the book ‘An inconvenient youth’ captivated the audience and provided an interesting view on the 2012 politics and business in South Africa.

Ambassador Andre Haspels welcomed the guests in Johannesburg and highlighted the Embassy’s new policies and developments. He said: "It’s interesting for everyone to be informed about what is happening in South African politics and how business people can be informed about the ever changing patterns. We are proud to have guest speaker Fiona Ford to shine her light on 2012". Political risk analyst and author Forde gave a presentation about how the ever-changing political plates are likely to affect South Africa’s economic present and future. A waterfall of questions from the audience about Julius Malema, the ANC Youth League and the future of South Africa’s economy and democracy extended the meeting with an extra hour. It was a very interesting, engaging, informative and successful evening!
