Eastern Cape Agriculture Roundtable

Eastern Cape Agriculture Roundtable

Type: Seminar

Date: 24-02-2017

Location: The Hague / The Netherlands

SANEC cordially invites you to our Eastern Cape Agriculture Roundtable; Investment Opportunities for Dutch-Agro businesses on Friday the 24th of February from 11h00 till 13h00 at the WTC, The Hague. SANEC and The South African Embassy in the Netherlands (The Hague) organize this event for our members and non-members to meet the Eastern Cape government portfolio committee and the South African Ambassador, H.E. Vusi Bruce Koloane. There is an opportunity to discuss topics such as legislative frameworks as well as economic opportunities for Dutch businesses in South Africa.

Within the South African agricultural sector, the Eastern Cape Province has made giant strides with the province's agricultural industry, showing significant growth in milk industry and a rise of new commercial  black and female farmers. Areas like Matatiele, Ugie and Maclear have seen sizable growth in new commercial farmer activity in the grain and oil-seed agricultural ventures and there remains room for further expansion.

A number of these farmers benefited from the support of organized agriculture groups and private investors such as Grain SA, and Old Mutual Masisizane Fund, amongst others. Grain SA has been actively involved in the province through its Farmer Development Program, which focused on training and skills development. The Old Mutual Masisizane Fund, together with the government, invested about R46 million in farming areas around Matatiele in 2016.
