The realisation of Part V:
Africa in the series Comprehensive Atlas of the Dutch East India Company, a recent publication of Asia Maior and the National Archives in The Hague, was made possible by the generous help from colleagues in several institutions in Cape Town. Consequently, their interest in the atlas is very great. In the meantime, however, it has become clear that purchasing a copy is well above the budget of many South African libraries, universities and museums.

For that reason we appeal to you as SANEC-members in order to be able to present some ten atlases to different institutions in South Africa. In cooperation with the publisher and the Dutch South African Society (NZAV), SANEC organises a lottery in which you can participate for € 50 (or a multiple of this sum) and have a chance to win a copy of the atlas (selling price € 350,-) as well as to attend a lecture by the author.

Naturally your name and/or that of your company will be mentioned in the atlases which can be sent to South Africa thanks to your contribution. The action ends on 31 January 2010.

Your contribution can be remitted to account number 67 128 in the name of NZAV, Amsterdam, mentioning VOC Africa-Atlas. In February 2010 the name of the winner of this lottery will be disclosed on the websites of the publisher (www.asiamaior.nl), the NZAV (www.zuidafrikahuis.nl), SANEC (www.sanec.nl), and in the Maandblad Zuid-Afrika.
