MoU signed: Dutch-South African initiative to safeguard Food Security
Food Security is of great essence in current times where food sources are not equally divided. To safeguard Food Security, SANEC (Southern African Netherlands Chamber of Commerce) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with NAFTC Southern African (Netherlands Agro & Food Technology), a private business platform which has booked results in a similar way in China and Israel.
By launching this initiative, both parties express their commitment towards the establishment of a NAFTC South(ern) Africa corporation based in Cape Town. The MoU was signed during a Foodsecurity trade mission from the Netherlands to South Africa.
NAFTC South(ern) Africa will be a Dutch – South African corporation to help securing food security in Southern Africa for the next decades to come. It will act as the business support office in South Africa, but also as a hub for the SADC region, allowing permanent representation and support. NAFTC is a public private partnership. The centre, which will be based in Cape Town, aims to create an South-African – Dutch partnership by providing Dutch expertise, products and technologies according to the specific South(ern) African requirements. The office supports and promotes businesses both individually and collectively. Membership is open to all Dutch or Netherlands based companies in the food and supply chain. The organization shall operate as a representative for the Netherlands agro and food sector in general and all stakeholders in particular.
The signing took place during the’ Feeding the World Conference’ gala dinner at the Michelangelo Hotel in Johannesburg.
