One exciting year after winning the 2013 ‘Best Idea of South Africa’ competition, Mama Taxi is pleased to announce that they have made considerable progress during this time.

In July 2014, Mama Taxi joined the Netherlands Economic mission to South Africa with Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation, Lilianne Ploumen. In September 2014, the Mama Taxi Foundation was officially established. The foundation comprises a Board of Directors, an Advisory Board, the Women Will Win council and a student team. The Woman Will Win (WWW) council will consist of leading ladies in high ranked positions within the corporate life. This network of female leaders will act as inspiration for the Mamas to pursue and realize their personal growth. The student team; three students from the Erasmus University of Rotterdam whom assist with research for the business plan and other practical tasks. 

Mama Taxi is a social enterprise that will educate women to become professional private chauffeurs. Mama Taxi will offer a first-class service that is safe, reliable and socially responsible. Its mission is to stand for the empowerment and economic development of women, facilitate in education and job creation by providing a safe work environment, the right resources and skills and a personal transportation service by women targeting the business-to-business and leisure markets. At Mama Taxi entrepreneurship and the aim for women to work and shine towards a brighter future for themselves and their communities is encouraged. The Mama Taxi pilot launch was planned in Cape Town, but as a result of overwhelming interest and support from stakeholders, the launch will take place in Rotterdam mid-2015. The city has specifically been chosen because of its impressive diversity. During mid-2016, Mama Taxi will be launched in Cape Town. As a social enterprise employing South African women, it is only natural for Mama Taxi to be a level 1 BB-BEE accredited company. And, in line with the philosophy of taking responsibility for our own future, Mama Taxi emphasizes the essence of sustainability by driving low-emission hybrid cars.
