Air Cargo Africa – Perishables By Air: Grounds For Change?

For three days, Schiphol Cargo shared a stand with SANEC at Air Cargo Africa 2015. As part of the plenary conference programme, SANEC, Schiphol Cargo and STAT Media organised a mini conference on shipping flowers and other perishables by air, hosted by Schiphol Cargo. 120 Major growers, specialist forwarders, handlers, airports, airlines, truckers and perishables supply chain experts attended. The mini conference – led by Schiphol Cargo’s Senior Vice President, Mr Enno Osinga – provided a forum for debate and the exchange of views and ideas about the perishables supply chain, and left participants with lots of food for thought.

Amsterdam Airport Schiphol called on SANEC’s previous experience in bringing together relevant industry leaders and key stakeholders in the sector.

Bart Pouwels, Schiphol Cargo’s perishables supply chain specialist, states that discussion platforms such as the mini conference has proven valuable to both growers and to Schiphol’s own logistics community, in terms of assisting African shippers to re-evaluate their supply chains.

According to Schiphol Cargo, the Air Shippers Forum is a further effort to encourage greater sophistication in perishables supply chain engineering and “it requires the full engagement of all parties and a ground-up review of how the chain functions”.

Other SANEC member at Air Cargo Africa was Air France-KLM-Martinair Cargo.
